The Vineyard…
Minko is a 160 hectare property on Woodcone Road, Mt. Compass on the Fleurieu Peninsula. Situated 250-300 metres above sea level, Minko receives similar daylight hours to the Adelaide Hills, ideal for growing cool climate varieties.
Six hectares of vines were planted in 1997 using the “smart dyson” trellising for the merlot and Vertical Shoot Positioning (V.S.P) for the rest. Another four hectares were planted in 1999.
Olive trees and natives line the vineyards for wind protection, as well as shade and habitat for the local birds and wildlife. The glacial sands over ironstone and the cool maritime climate both contribute to the flavour of our wine.
Vintage is usually from the end of February to early May. We harvest the olives in June, usually every second year.
