Minko is a beautiful 160 hectare property near Mount Compass offering self contained and secluded accommodation for two in a rustic cottage overlooking vineyards and heritage listed scrub.
Minko Cottage was built by Nick, the N and K in Minko, for a school project in 2002. As a 17 year old learning how to design, build and project manage, there was a lot of “trial and error”, which became the unofficial nickname for the cottage. The end result however is a charming, rustic, labour of love – a place to sit back and relax and enjoy the tranquillity of the farm.
Built using passive solar design principles, Minko Cottage is an open living space with a queen sized bed, a double sofa bed, lounge, wood fire, kitchen and dining area, with a separate bathroom and laundry, surrounded by native trees and shrubs, drought tolerant plants and fruit trees.
Designed as a rustic escape to modern life, it is a place to let go, read a book, sit by the fire and gaze out at the rolling hills, the heritage listed native scrub and the vineyards changing colours with the seasons. You fall asleep to an orchestra of frogs, and wake to bird song. Cows, kangaroos and horses meander by. It really is a place to let your worries go and just “be”.
If you feel like something more energetic, you could always go for a walk in the scrub, a dip in the dam or visit the Minko Cellar Door in Willunga.

Here’s what our guests have had to say…
Minko Cottage was even better than we had expected! Located in the middle of a working farm on the edge of the heritage listed scrub, only minutes away from our favourite beachside towns, it was perfect. The cottage itself is clean, comfortable and cosy, just the right size for the two of us and our toddler, who loved the garden for running, climbing and exploring in safety. It was a joy to watch the birds and hear the frogs in the pond, and to wander down to visit the cows and horses. Not having the distraction of the telly meant early nights and lots of quality time cooking, eating, reading, walking and the odd dance too. A proper holiday. We also think very highly of your commitment to environmental sustainability in everything from the building of the cottage itself to your biodynamic viticultural practices. Thank you for having us Margo and Mike. It was a real pleasure and I hope we can make it back again.

Thank you Margo for your beautiful cottage stay. We were in desperate need of a weekend away and your cottage was just perfect. I grew up on a farm and realized quickly what I have missed since moving. The rolling green hills and picturesque scenery were what we enjoyed waking up to. The sun setting behind the hills over a bottle of wine with the sound of the birds chirping was memorable indeed. Well done on the cottage, we will be sure to recommend you lovely stay to everyone.

Minko was such a beautiful place to stay. With spectacular views of rolling hills and gorgeous sunsets, it was such a cosy little hideaway. The kitchen had a range of supplies and the bottle of wine on arrival just made our stay that little bit more special! We even stoked up the wood fire place and watched the sunset with a wine in hand! What a special place!

What a peaceful place! I loved everything about staying here. It’s such a great layout and a really charming feel. There was so much wildlife around, I highly recommend a walk down to the dam when you stay. Sitting on the porch with a coffee was just so peaceful. I came here to do some writing and it was really inspiring. Highly recommend!! Also the little coffee machine was really good! 🙂 Loved the decor in the bathroom, and everything was really well equipped.
We had a wonderful time at this lovely and relaxing cottage. The place is immaculate and it is the perfect place for a weekend getaway from the hectic city life. We really enjoyed the view, the birds and the nice wine that is produced from the vineyards surrounding the cottage. We will definitely be back!
We had a lovely stay at the cottage. The space is amazing and the surrounds are very peaceful and beautiful. Great place to get away from it all and relax with a fire and a book! Margo was very friendly and helpful, and made out entire stay a breeze. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer! We will definitely be back! Oh and we especially enjoyed about reading about how the cottage was built! Amazing!
Beautiful views outside and comfort inside. The perfect spot for a weekend getaway to do nothing but enjoy the sounds of birds. The cottage itself stays warm with the fire and is such a relaxing space. Everything you need, including wine! Margo is quick to respond and a pleasure to deal with.
Had the most amazing stay at Minko Farm! The cottage was even more beautiful than the photos do justice. Clean and tidy, equipped with all basic cooking needs and a enjoyed supply of wine! The surrounding country side was a pleasure to wake up to and Margo herself was a delight to book through. Would highly recommend and will be back for sure!
Had such a peaceful and relaxing time away at Minko farm! The cottage was super cosy with the fire at night and absolutely stunning views to greet us in the mornings, not to mention kangaroos grazing in the paddock and also a couple of cheeky foxes playing chasey! We did a lot of walking and exploring through the farm, got to pat the horses and cows which was pretty cool for us city kids! Highly recommend staying at the farm, the fresh air did is the world of good 🙂 Margo was very accommodating and she also was extremely efficient in responding to all of my questions and queries, made the entire experience smooth and pleasant.
